Promises, Promises

I have always wanted a personal blog. Something that screams “ME!” But would you really be interested in my life? Maybe, but most likely not. But I think you will prefer to read about things that would benefit YOU instead. So sneak a peek into my life though the things I buy, the things I eat, the businesses and deals I enter into. At best you may pick up a few points, at the very least you will be entertained.
I will also include here product reviews, consumer/customer concerns, checklists and lifestyle articles — and I promise to be fair and constructive every time. Maybe I’ll even throw in a few recipes here and there but nothing fancy (I plan a whole “De Lata Delights” series). Just all the shortcuts that would save you time and money.
When I feature anything, I will tell you the price and the source. If you find a better deal, please do everyone a favor, jump right in and name your source, too, so everyone can benefit. And do not expect me to sell you anything through this site. I am not into retail trade, you see. My businesses are all about service, and they take up too much of my time for me to go into e-commerce. Yup, what you will get here is free information that you can rely on for your decisions or supplies.
Oh, and before I forget, let me tell you that I have chosen to reside permanently in Baguio — the Ukay Ukay Capital of the Philippines — since 1997. But please do not think that this site is all about buying someone else’s discards. Not at all! I am Manila born and raised, and being the eldest child, have never experienced hand-me-downs. It’s the lack of supplies here still drives me to source almost everything I need from Manila, especially for my bed & breakfast. And most of the time, that means Divisoria, or the Greenhills tiangge, or Tiendecitas. I love garage sales though and swap meets and that’s when “trash to treasure” comes in.
Ok, the occasional Bree leather messenger bag from the Ukay at Php2000 ($40) makes me reach new heights of materialistic happiness, I must admit. Maybe I’ll tell you about it, too, but I am thinking, what’s the point of my telling you about a good find at the Ukay if the supply is not constant? Will that entice you to come up and visit us here? Maybe. Will you hate me and want to charge me for all your vacation expenses if you did not find the same thing at the same price? Probably. The whole point of this blog is not to cause envy but to alert you to the possibility of getting the same bargain.
How often should you check this site? As often as you like. In between purchases I will be including other articles and features like the best thing to order in whichever restaurant. You see, our family business has always been a steak house in Metro Manila and I do know all about food cost. So when a restaurant is virtually giving away its food for free, let me tell you about it before they get wind of their mistake. On other occasions, let me tell you about taste bud popping meals and deals that I know about. Sometimes, food cost + a whole lot of innovation can be priceless.
Lastly, please know this about me, I will think twice about spending Php500 ($10) on a piece of clothing that I can wear over and over again but will not bat an eyelash about spending Php1,000 ($20) on a good meal. Of course getting the same great meal for much less is way better.
