ERAP’s Crime

I feel bad that the only man who won the Philippine presidency legitimately by popular vote since 1966 had to abuse his power, and abuse it so brazenly that the middle and upper classes could no longer turn a blind eye to his excesses.

This country tolerates a lot for the sake of economic prosperity: Ferdinand Marcos’ martial law, Cory Aquino’s inexperience but immense popularity, Fidel Ramos’ selling off as many government assets as he could (among others), and all the murders and disappearances of journalists and detractors during Gloria Arroyo’s term.

I believe that all the above-named (except for Cory Aquino) have amassed great fortunes at the expense of the clueless, naive, trusting Filipino people. Erap’s crime is that he got caught.

What is he really guilty of? “Plunder with Impunity!”

The Dissatisfied Customer Equation

While blogging is a relatively new medium for me, I am not a newbie to the web. As webmaster for a travel website for the last few years, I have always been very careful about publishing only the truth (so that even when my stat counter allowed me to determine which number I wanted to start from, I chose to start from zero). When I redesigned Go Baguio! recently to be more information-packed, giving site visitors my personal recommendations for restaurants, souvenir items, recreational activities and itineraries I actually saw folks walking around with printed pages of my website (you see, Baguio is a small town and you do bump into each other over and over again during high season). Then I realized how influential webmasters and bloggers could be, especially if there are very few in the same niche.

Promises, Promises

I have always wanted a personal blog. Something that screams “ME!” But would you really be interested in my life? Maybe, but most likely not. But I think you will prefer to read about things that would benefit YOU instead. So sneak a peek into my life though the things I buy, the things I eat, the businesses and deals I enter into. At best you may pick up a few points, at the very least you will be entertained.

I will also include here product reviews, consumer/customer concerns, checklists and lifestyle articles — and I promise to be fair and constructive every time. Maybe I’ll even throw in a few recipes here and there but nothing fancy (I plan a whole “De Lata Delights” series). Just all the shortcuts that would save you time and money.
